HISTORY

Established in 1838, the Scottish-born Ryrie brothers planted grapes across more than 43,000 acres. In 1850, Swiss-Italian immigrant Paul de Castella expanded the vineyard, introducing prized international cuttings including selections from Château Lafite. After the changing of hands over the following decades, Yering Station was purchased by the Rathbone family in 1996. The beginning of a new chapter that combined the family's deep appreciation of wine and agriculture with a considered vision to elevate the historic estate into one of the Yarra Valley’s most respected modern wine destinations.

Across Yarra Glen and Coldstream in the Yarra Valley, Australia’s premier cool climate wine region, lie our five vineyard sites. Our diverse region shifts dramatically in elevation, from around 50 metres to peaks of 1,250 metres, shaped by the Great Dividing Range and a wide range of soil profiles.

Our approach to viticulture is grounded in respect, integrity and knowledge as the guiding pillars of our philosophy. We carefully manage soils, canopies and yields using a combination of precision viticulture technology and our expert team who immaculately balance modern innovation with the human sense of taste. While science and technology inform key decisions in the vineyard and winery, it is ultimately taste that guides our work from vine to bottle.

WINEMAKING

At Yering Station, we believe that each great wine should express their individual epitome of time, place and effort. The vintage, the site, the craft. These three pillars work together to shape wines of true regional authenticity and varietal integrity. Guided by a “less is more” winemaking philosophy, we focus on purity of fruit and clarity of expression, using age-old techniques supported by modern advances to let each wine speak with precision and restraint. Techniques such as wild yeast fermentation, hand plunging and maturation in exclusively French oak form the foundation of our craft, enhancing the natural expression of our cool climate fruit.
