Colour
Deep crimson with a purple hue.
Nose
Black currant, fresh leather and hints of violet.
Palate
Spicy dark fruit, palate is plush and generous. Tannins provide plenty of structure and ageing potential.
Cellar
This is a young wine that will benefit from a few years in the cellar and is expected to age very well over the next 15+ years.
AWARDS & ACCOLADES
Such a stylish and thoroughly beautiful expression of Grampians cooler climate cabernet. Highly perfumed aromas of blackcurrant and a touch of African violet adding a further aromatic lift. The medium bodied palate is brilliantly crafted with plush and generously supple fruits supported by excellent oak and fine tannin. Long focused finish.
Campbell Mattinson, Halliday Wine Companion
This is a long, sinewy wine with all the fruit it needs and all the charm in the world. It will live for a long time and age majestically. It tastes of black cherry and redcurrant, smoked tobacco and fragrant dry herbs, plus gum leaf, plus pepper. Oak comes across as sweet and nutty but modest in volume. The future awaits. This wine has a lot ahead of it.
This densely packed and serious 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon is broody and very much sitting in its shell but teases with slatey, earthy, dusty aromas over a solid base of blackcurrant. Rivers of ripe tannin provide a strong frame, again with a firm gravel and earthy edge to the fruit lifted by subtle leaf and eucalypt. Lots to like and will cellar well.
"Right in the wheelhouse of a classic cool climate Cabernet, this Talus is a very good release from Mount Langi Ghiran.
The fruit comes from machine-harvested vines with an average age of 47 years and they see French oak barriques for 16 months (45% new).
The introduction stirs up plenty of interest. Think cool mints (do they still make those?), blackberries, blackberry paste, blackcurrants and pretty purple flowers. Some tomato bush and roasted capsicum raise their hand early but move on after some time in the glass.
There is some density but the fruit glides through with a silky presence. Soft tannins have a skip in their step and coax you back time and again. It's drinking well now but it will build some fabulous momentum in the years to come, should you have the patience to let it do so.

2021 was another relatively mild year in terms of temperatures, allowing for above average yields, of high-quality fruit. Ripening was drawn out, resulting in a divine Cabernet Sauvignon, with loads of spice and a full basket of fruit flavours.
